Prepare before you enter
Agree with your instructor on what you are practising. Review the route before moving, so the destination does not become a distraction. Look at the signs as you approach and choose the correct entrance lane.
Use the acceleration lane thoughtfully
Ontario’s handbook describes building speed in the acceleration lane to match freeway traffic before merging. Conditions, the speed limit and a safe gap still matter. Avoid treating the end of the lane as permission to force your way in.
Make observation part of every lane change
Check traffic around you, signal your intention and check your blind spot before moving when safe. The purpose is to know whether the space is clear, rather than simply complete a sequence of gestures.
Plan exits early
Read directional signs in time to position yourself safely. If you miss an exit, continue to the next safe route rather than stopping or reversing on the freeway. Practise recovering from a missed direction calmly.
Ask for focused feedback
After highway practice, ask which decisions were well timed and where you needed more space or preparation. Choose one or two priorities for the next lesson. Readiness should be assessed in the car; an online quiz cannot assess actual driving.
